Shopping Guide
There are countless shops selling an endless assortment of objects and services. With so many different species that come in various shapes and sizes, finding the perfect fit for you can be a challenge. With magical gear having so many types of effects and power levels, it can be hard to find exactly the one you want sitting on a shelf. In many cases, you will need to request an object be shipped in or crafted, and then wait for it. Most shops or crafters will charge any material costs upfront before they will create your request.
Shops
Most shops are connected to or run directly by a crafter that provides most of the inventory of the shop. Shops also are often willing to purchase gear from prospective customers, though at a highly discounted rate. Some will then place those objects for sale, though most will trade them with other shops so that each is in possession of only objects within their own style of product.
Worn Gear
For creatures that are size -1, 0, or 1 with a standard torso type, it is often a simple task to find objects they can wear. For everyone else, it is common to need to Research where to find specialty made objects or rely on luck. Once purchases, most shops will have their crafter available to make some quick alterations to ensure the gear is usable, though may charge for this service. For the customer that wants a perfect fit, they will need to be fitted and request crafting of the desired piece almost every time.
When going to smaller towns and villages, the options in shops will be very resrticted. In most cases, you will only find objects that could be used by the bulk of the population in the location or that are needed for survival in the area. Remote locations may also have higher costs as there is no where else to go. For creatures with a unique body type, going to a place populated by their own people is often the best way to find the gear they need.
Magical Gear
The value of magical gear makes it challenging to have much on display at any shop. Higher tier objects are exceedingly rare as few can craft them to begin with, and having many souls tied up on a shelf is not good for business. Almost all magical gear above tier 3 will need to be made on request. Sometimes luck will be with you, frequently with a Luck Tier equal to 1/2 the Craft Tier of the object, however, in most cases, you get to put your patience to the test.
Rare Materials
The more valuable a material is, the less likely it is to be sitting around ready to be bought. Often, they are only found after having been sold to the shop. It is near impossible to find a specific object already made in a desired material. Expect to wait a long time while such objects are crafted by the handful of specialists that know how to work with them.
Bartering
Everyone wants the best price, including the merchant. While it is possible to barter, it will not always go in your favor. Most merchants are very experienced, and you may find yourself paying more than they originally asked for. If there is nowhere else to get the object you seek, you won't have a choice but to pay up. If you bring the price down too low on a regular basis, the shop may not want to do business with you anymore. If you insult them by walking away after to trying to bring a cost down, not only may they not want to sell to you, they may tell the other merchants in the area and make it impossible for you to purchase anything anywhere.
