Your character is more than just the abilities and values that are derived from the rules. It is important to determine who they are as a person allowing you to role-play throughout the story. While parts of your past and current intents should be set, your character will develop and grow during their adventure.
Making an effort to role-play adds to the fun and may be rewarded when the Soulweaver feels you have done well. They may grant small bonuses on your rolls or situational perks as applicable to a scene that you participate in.
Background
Knowing where you came from is a great influence towards where you are going. Choosing details such as profession, combat style, social style, hopes, and fears will often guide you when determining how your character will respond to any situation.
Noting people that are important to you and contacts you have made in the past can grant opportunities to encounter those people during your adventure. Being able to call in a favor from your favorite brother that is a local guard or more easily gather information from your best friend the barkeep can get you exactly what you need at pivotal points. These people must be within reason of your character's life and the Soulweaver may determine that some contacts are beyond what you may have. While sometimes it may be possible, it is unlikely that you were classmates with the king and saved his life on several occasions, so he owes you one now.
Hindrances
Even heroes and champions can have imperfections. Choosing 1 or 2 traits about your character that most would consider hindrances can help find their identity and build inspiration to role-play about. Only you can determine how your character behaves in relation to these adjustments, and you can allow them to largely impact how you play or often ignore them.
Examples of options you may afflict upon your character are phobias, clumsy, sickly, illiterate, greedy, unfocused, smug, chivalrous, unforgiving, stubborn, one-armed, or overconfident. There is no limit as to how you can describe your character. Along with this, it can help to define the trait with a severity, such as mild, moderate, or severe, to further assist identifying how it affects the story.
If you determine that your character is sickly, you may shy away from missions that relate to diseased areas knowing that you are more vulnerable to them. Chivalrous characters may frustrate the party as they constantly go out of their way to care for others.
